Art of Skin Gala
June 10, 2022
Skin. It defines us and tells our stories. Throughout history, artists, painters, sculptors, photographers and filmmakers have passionately created the “art of skin.” And if there’s one thing we’ve learned over time, it’s that all skin is beautiful. That’s why we're hosting the Art of Skin Gala, a live, in color celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusion brought to life through the beauty of skin.
Brought to you by the Chicago Dermatological Society
To benefit Horizons for Youth, High Jump, Diversity Mentorships and CDS Leadership Endowments
Join us at Revel Motor Row for an evening of culinary, visual, dance and musical experiences
This city landmark at 2400 S. Michigan Avenue is rich in Chicago history and has been restored as an event space to help fuel the resurgence of an iconic neighborhood into a thriving entertainment district. Built in 1936 and previously home to the Illinois Automobile Club and the Chicago Defender building, Revel Motor Row provides an impressive backdrop for the Art of Skin Gala .

Established in 1989, High Jump seeks to bring equity to education for Chicago middle school students who have exhibited ambition and potential and who are of limited financial means. It provides an environment where students receive academic enrichment, socialemotional skills training and high school counseling with the goals of sending its participants to superior college preparatory schools. High Jump is a two-year, tuition free academic enrichment program for seventh and eighth graders in Chicago. Ninety-eight percent are youth of color and 95% attend Chicago Public schools.
Horizons for Youth
Founded in 1990, its mission is to transform the life of a child by providing targeted resources, rooted in education, in trusting partnership with their family and community. It is Chicago’s only organization providing a comprehensive suite of wraparound services and tuition scholarships for children at both the elementary and high school levels, with continued academic and socio-emotional support through college. Horizons for Youth students are 50% African American, 41% Latino, and 9% Bi-racial or other ethnicities from 36 neighborhoods, primarily on the west and south sides of Chicago.
Dermatologists are inherently visual people. Our lives are spent observing skin and its nuances. So, we are very much looking forward to hosting an event that will feature strikingly memorable visual experiences, as well as musical, dance, and culinary delights.
This event will help improve educational advancements in many communities of color in our beautiful city. Not only will we provide grants to two respected nonprofit organizations that support STEM education and mentorship in underserved communities, but we will mentor four medical students from underrepresented communities. This will be done through diversity in dermatology internships with CDS mentors. We will recognize four individuals who have benefited our society and the Chicago community as well. And a portion of the gala proceeds will also contribute funds to the named Lectureship Endowments of the CDS.
We look forward to a celebration of diversity, equity and inclusion brought to life through the beauty of skin.
So please join us!
